Bites of Boston: The Sweet & Savory South End Walking Food Tour

Over the course of our 3-hour guided tour, you’ll sample scrumptious food from neighborhood restaurants, cafes and specialty food stores while learning about the foods you are tasting and the people who make them. You’ll also experience the local culture as we stroll the neighborhood streets, visiting sites of historical and architectural interest. The casual pace makes this walking food tour appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.

Delicious Food Tastings – The Sweet and Savory South End Walking Food Tour takes place in Boston’s historic South End neighborhood. You’ll taste local favorites from 6 South End eateries including award-winning pizza, a creatively concocted cookie, and the iconic New England fried clam, to name a few. You’ll also learn how these local establishments came to be, who owns them and some fun and interesting stories they have to share. The food sampled on the tour is included in the price of your ticket and is enough for a satisfying lunch. Tasting Locations are listed and described below.

Neighborhood Nourishment – On top of delicious food tastings, you’ll also enjoy a hearty helping of historical, architectural and cultural information about the South End neighborhood.  You’ll see some beautifully planned Victorian bowfront communities, learn about the cultural development of the area, and hear some fascinating facts about some of the South End’s sites and famous residents. Our Sweet & Savory South End Walking Food Tour is full of food, facts, and fun!

Cooking with Teresita: Empanadas Argentinas Cooking class

For a cooking experience like no other, Teresita’s empanadas class in Buenos Aires is all about experiencing a new culture by tasting the local cuisine.

Combine the art of home style cooking & travel into an adventure experience. You’ll have the opportunity to explore and learn how life feels at an Argentinean’s home while learning how to prepare mouth watering dishes.

In a very informal atmosphere at Teresita’s rustic kitchen overlooking a lush tropical garden, discover the secrets of a recipe that has been passed down through the generations. At her class you will learn how to prepare crisp and juicy beef and Humita (corn) empanadas while covering the influences of south American indigenous food preparation techniques and how they relate to contemporary Argentine cuisine.

We cover two types of Empanadas Argentinas; Empanadas de Carne (beef empanadas) and Empanadas de Humita (corn empanadas):

  • Traditional beef hash (picadillo de carne) preparation
  • Humita (corn) empanada filling preparation
  • Explore the different spices: aji molido, locoto (a hot aji), comino
  • What to look for when selecting the right beef
  • Empanada dough, what flour to use, filling, folding
  • How to handle dough to keep from cracking
  • Different stuffing techniques
  • Baked and fried methods covered
  • Mastering the right ingredients amount
  • Learn the secret of a flaky and crispy crust

Pairing Wine

A Malbec wine from Mendoza with taste of cherries, plums, blackberries and raspberries, and marked by a peppery spice, licorice and ample tannins. They have bright acidity, ideal to cut through the richness of red meat. Argentine Malbecs are rarely super-alcoholic, thus enhancing their food-friendly character.

The Financial District in Downtown Los Angeles is in the middle of an amazing transformation, renaissance, and revitalization. The development of new Live/Work lofts, L.A. Live, and has increased foot traffic an has drawn several new and exciting eateries to the area. Six Taste is excited to present our Financial District food tour, which combines tastings at some of the most diverse restaurants with an overview of some of the fascinating landmarks in the area. This tour gives visitors a glimpse into the culinary scene of a district on the brink of major renovations, while also showcasing fascinating historical landmarks such as Pershing Square, and the Richard Riordan Central Library.

  • Sip on a creamy ube (purple yam) milkshake at Lost Souls Café.
  • Bite into a delectable combination of fresh fruit and high-quality grilled-cheese sandwich from Syrup Desserts.
  • Sample dishes from Ciudad, by the famous Too Hot Tamales’ chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken
  • Dig into freshly baked mac and cheese from mac&cheeza .

Edible Excursions: Taste the Mission Walking Tour

Your Epicurean Concierge makes a regular beeline to San Francisco’s Mission District, where the traditional and often lusty Latino and South American flavors are a part of a changing community of various background and cultures. Excursions include a mouth-watering assortment of tastings and samples both savory and sweet. It’s a world of tacos and salsa (the sauce, not the dance), freshly made ice cream and savory pies. Guests will enjoy learning in person the stories of Mission culinary artists and shop keepers, with insights into the area’s history and beautiful, world famous murals.

Bring your appetite and a bottle of water. Along the way, participants will get to taste some of the following local artisan edibles (subject to change):

La Cocina is a Mission-based business incubator program for food entrepreneurs.
– Handmade tartlet from Mission Pie and hand held savory pie delivered by Bike Basket Pies.
– We’ll also try some of Humphry Slocombe’s award winning, fresh, original ice cream such as Secret Breakfast, Boccalone Prosciutto and Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee, as well as Mexican delicacies from El Farolito (taco), La Palma Foods, (huarache and fresh salsa) and La Victoria (pan dulce)
Mission Minis, home of the mini cinnamon horchata cupcake, baked daily.
Mr. Pollo serves the most incredible empanadas and arepas in this quaint Venezuelan eatery.
Local Mission Eatery is true to its name. One of the Mission’s newest additions, Local offers a menu for lunch, brunch and dinner that reflects the seasons and availability of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meats.
– The Precita Eyes Mural Arts Center captivates guests with more than 80 colorful murals that celebrate the Mission District’s cultural heritage in an eight-block span.
